The school year of 1957-1958 is not one that can be easily forgotten. This school year was to become a marking point in history. After the court decision of Brown vs. Board of Education (1954), the court ruled racial segregation in public schools unconstitutional. Three years later, Ernest Green and eight other students (known as the Little Rock Nine) went to Little Rock Central High School in effort to desegregate a public white school.

Growing up in Little Rock, Arkansas, Ernest had always been accustomed to racial discrimination; however, he knew it was time for a change. Although he knew it was not going to be easy, Ernest had never expected what was to come. Through his passion, courage, and bravery, he prevailed through his hardships to become the first African American to graduate from a white public school.
